MORE ABOUT
Vassilis Tsabropoulos
"Tsabropoulos is one of those rare musicians who is equally at home in both the classical and the jazz worlds."
- The Times
"A wizard of sound and a rare musician who acrobats with particular ease between classical and jazz music, like a true heir to Keith Jarrett..." New York Times
"His sound is sensitive and his phrasing airy, with finesse. He does not seek to impress and interprets the most virtuosic passages without any effort" Le Monde
"Vassilis Tsabropoulos is indeed a very rare case of a musician. He is a musician of pleasure, of creation away from clichés and poses. A charming and immediately communicative performer, an inner composer whose notes hide a mystery, a conductor full of energy and passion. A musical completer who perhaps follows the path of musical completeness opened by Leonard Bernstein." Times of London
Vassilis Tsabropoulos is one of the most important representatives of Greek music. The unique combination of his philosophical ideas and his exceptional musical talent made a significant contribution to his artistic development and the formation of his ideas. This combination, although unusual in the world of music, was deeply harmonious and played a key role in shaping his artistic path.
His serious studies at major institutions, such as the Julliard Academy in New York and the École Normale in Paris, together with his Philosophy studies at the Sorbonne paved the way for an important international career from his youth. His long-term dedication to the field of philosophy has made him an important thinker in the field of epistemology and metaphysics.
The New York Times has described the Greek pianist as one of the most versatile and charismatic European musicians. He has showcased a wide range of his talents, from conducting orchestras and playing classical piano pieces to exploring modern improvisations and composing works for symphony orchestra.
He belongs to the elite of European piano soloists, having in his repertoire dozens of works of piano literature that he performs in his recitals in the international music centers of Europe and America, but also in his special appearances in Greece, in music circles such as "Great Performers and Great Orchestras" at the Athens Concert Hall. He has collaborated with the leading orchestras of Europe and America, such as the London Philharmonic, the Czech Philharmonic, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, the Italian Radio Symphony, etc.
The central axis of his repertoire are works by Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin as well as the compositions of the Russian School, as he has repeatedly performed works by Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky and Scriabin. In 2009 he was honored as an honorary member of the Rachmaninoff International Society for his performances of the works of the great Russian pianist and composer. He is regarded by the international press as a faithful interpreter-studier of the music of Rachmaninov in his piano and symphonic works, as well as Chopin.
A highlight of his pianistic career was his collaboration with Vladimir Ashkenazy and the London Philharmonic in Beethoven and Rachmaninoff concertos.
He has been recording for ECM, a leading German record company, since 2000. He has released 7 highly successful albums internationally.
